YetepPop-Punk and DnB visionary Ghost In Real Life is an outstanding rising star whose unique style and influences create a one of a kind sound and brand. Her lyrics also stand out, laced with metaphors and observations, while being delivered in an iconic yelling vocal style. Guitars and DnB breaks are ever present in her sound. A representation of her genre-meshing abilities. GIRL’s newest drop, “Poison” remains consistent. Blending low, rumbling guitar riffs with DnB foghorn effects. Her lyrics are as biting and metaphor-driven as ever. Paving the way for GIRL to continue to take the EDM industry by storm.
“Poison” begins with riffs and tapping, anticipation-building cymbals. GIRL’s echoing vocals are woven in before fully expanding into the first verse. This verse describes followers “using the sidewalk that I have paved” to advance their own interests and goals. GIRL also refers to greedy people Climbing an endless ladder and propagating to the masses for clout. Referring to these individuals as “Poison.” This brings in the first chorus, which features iconic breaks and blaring foghorns. These elements morph into electric, toned guitars and rewind effects, and back again. This brings us back to the intro loop and a verse for a second time.
“People never change, they never have their own ideas. Taking any chance to reinvent the wheel. Doubling down on attention for the mass appeal. You can fake it till you make it but you’ll never be real.”
This passage calls out those who do not critically think. I detect a note of sarcasm in the second line, which seems to imply that they only THINK that they are doing something new. Those who “fake it until they make it” will never be their true selves, hiding behind a shady mask to hide intentions. The second chorus drops us right back in. Further immersing us into GIRL’s outstanding storytelling skills. “Poison” is an outstanding track with notable lyrics and melodies. GIRL’s lyrics are relatable and cathartic. Giving listeners a rebellious backdrop on which to address their own feelings.
“Poison is a dark, devious track about toxic people who will do anything to seem cool or climb the ladder of success. It draws inspiration from the phrase “drinking the Kool-Aid,” which describes blindly following harmful beliefs or behaviors in pursuit of a goal. I call it Poison because there are right and wrong ways to chase success, and the wrong ways can feel addictive, kind of like drinking poison. You feel better in the moment, but eventually it slowly kills you. ”
