YetepDeadmau5 has been causing a stir, as usual, with his social media antics and criticism of of his peers. In the meantime, he’s also been working on compiling a new album, which has been made official today.
while(1<2) is set to be released on June 17 on all digital platforms, with a physical and streaming release date of June 24. It’s being touted as an album “he feels to truly be his first proper body of work.” Plenty of the tracks will sound familiar as we’ve heard them played in live sets over the past few months at settings such as Ultra Music Festival, and several were temporarily featured as yet to be completed works on his personal Soundcloud page.
Joel describes the album as something that’s not too far off from his usual sound, but still something different that he personally wanted to express.
“It’s a good mix of sh*t I want to do versus sh*t people want to hear or what they would expect. It’s a good balance. It’s not like, ‘Oh, it’s such a departure. He’s doing smooth jazz,’” says deadmau5. “It was when I was working on some live stuff, setlists for shows and stuff like that, and it just must have been a couple of tracks that sounded pretty good stitched together end to start and I thought, “Well, if I ever do an album or compile this into some kind of album this has got to be that part of the order for that.” And I just kind of took everything and played musical Tetris with it.”
Take a listen to the leaked full version of “Avaritia”, the opening track for the new album that was originally posted to his personal page a while back. It’s definitely got that familiar Deadmau5 sound. Should be interesting to see how different the entire album will sound from front to back.
