Fraternity men aren’t all just boat shoes and pastel pants. Derek Andersen and Scott Land, frat bros at UC Irvine, are banging beats and playing trap shows.
The DJ duo began playing at frat parties and was desperate to spice up the playlist from typical hip-hop to house. Eager to spread house through Orange County, they created Slander simply as a way to entertainment people at parties. Little did they know that their natural knack for DJing and passion for house music would take them much further than the OC.

Slander hit the ground running with their transition from house hungry DJs to being a trap dynasty. They shook the trap-sphere when they introduced their new sound that has been adapted into their own genre; heaven trap. Combining dance beats with hip-hop, the duo focuses on having their tracks be meaningful and euphoric.
“We want to make people cry at the trap show. In our sets we play all the heaven trap at the end, so people leave the show with a warm, uplifting feeling,” Andersen said in a 2014 interview with YourEDM.
Slander has spent the last three years perfecting their unique new twist on trap and has been killing it every show. With their fraternity brothers, fellow students and family as the core, their fanbase has exploded since their house sets in frat house basements.
With a few tours under their belt, these producing prodigies are blazing through show after show with their trap-tastic energy that is something you’ll have to experience yourself to truly understand. To witness it first hand, be sure to catch them at BRKFST later this month on May 22 for BRKFST @ Nite.
