YetepOne of my personal favorites, Galantis, the duo comprised of Style of Eye’s Linus Eklow and Miike Snow’s Christian Karlsson, has dropped their debut LP, Pharmacy, and let’s just say that there is a reason I rank them in my top three. Although Galantis may be one of the leaders in the movement toward a mainstream EDM culture, that does not mean that they have sacrificed the quality of their music in order to do so.
GALANTIS – PHARMACY
Pharmacy is home to some of the most recognizable and danceable tracks in recent memory. You may be familiar with the festival successes, “Runaway (U & I)”, “Gold Dust”, and “You”, as well as the recently released “Peanut Butter Jelly”, which have all made their way onto this freshman release. In addition to these tracks, Eklow and Karlsson have graced us with the likes of new tracks which are likely to be just as sought after in festival mixes including “Forever Tonight”, “In My Head”, and “Don’t Care”. In addition to these tracks which are indicative of the Galantis sound that we have come to know and love, they take a left turn with tracks like “Call If You Need Me”, which takes us on a tropical-ish journey that we have not yet seen from them, and “Kill ‘Em With Love”, which lends soulful lyrics to a melodic piano riff.
After surprising the world with their first live performance at Coachella, Galantis has done it once again, surprise us that is, with this amazing new album. The two have come a long way since their days as band members in each of their respective projects, and I don’t see them stopping any time in the near future. Let’s hope they can do the same with their second album that they did with their first… surprise us yet again. Catch Galantis and another live performance as they close the Live Stage at Ultra Korea this weekend (if you can get there soon enough, that is). Whether or not you can make it to Ultra, you should definitely check out this interview with Time Magazine discussing the creation of Galantis and Pharmacy.
