CRSSD Festival Brought a Little Bit of Everything to the Waterfront

For the second time this year, CRSSD Festival has taken over the Waterfront Park in San Diego, CA. The earlier rendition of the festival that took place this past March was topped by yet another successful event. While the festival may have been unseasonably hot for the middle of autumn with temperatures in the mid-90s, the super-chill 21+ plus crowd didn’t seem to mind even a bit. The oceanfront location featured a versatile lineup of artists featuring several B2B sets, indie-infused acts, and even AlunaGeorge!

CRSSD Fest was unlike any other that I have been to in a while. The three stages displayed an equal level of talent, making one move around from stage to stage experiencing everything the festival had to offer rather than posting up at the main stage as many do at EDM events. There was no stereotypical douchebros that have come into the EDM scene to get some rave booty and bother the rest of us. No, there was none of that – just an awesome, super vibey crowd there to enjoy some awesome tunes by the beautiful beaches of San Diego.

Getting to experience artists I wouldn’t usually have the opportunity to see, the festival offered a little bit of everything. The indie-rock duo SWIMM was a favorite of mine as far as the live bands went, performing on the Ocean View Live stage on Day 1 of the festival. SNBRN proved yet again that California knows how to party, as they rocked the stage with support from a band. As far as the 3 consecutive B2B sets went, while all of them were fantastic, Cashmere Cat B2B Trippy Turtle might have taken the cake! Directly after their set, Tchami took to The Palms stage where he played an epic set, as always. The inconspicuous Zhu played some baby making music as he wooed the crowd over.

Day 2 of the festival was a little lighter on the heat, getting festivalgoers there even earlier for the final day. Many of the stages were packed early on; and when festival attendees were trying to cool off, the water areas featuring fountains provided a perfect place to take a break. Owning the Ocean View Live stage, AlunaGeorge was an early on favorite Day 2, as the confident Aluna Francis strutted the stage, belting out the songs with impeccable vocals – a perfect symbol of girl power.

Bringing all the tropical house goodness, Matoma took over The Palms stage and got the crowd craving more! After his set, naturally the crowd made their way over back to the Ocean View Live stage to go see the talented Kygo. It was obvious he was one of the most revered of the festival as the crowd was massive and adorned by a sea of girls atop some lucky dudes’ shoulders. As the first festival I have ever been to in San Diego, I must say it definitely stands out amongst the extensive list of other shows I have frequented. CRSSD Festival is definitely a unique festival, bringing diverse artists and exposing me to several techno and deep house artists that got the festival going each day and provided such an amazing atmosphere.
