Phoenix Lights Flashback: Getting Down with Claude Vonstroke

How do you know if Phoenix Lights was the biggest music festival in Arizona so far? Because none of the other festivals ever had Dirtybird label boss, Claude Vonstroke on the line up, let alone having him play the closing set. CVS has been making appearances at music festivals around North America to promote his new EP, The Rain Break, and his set at Phoenix Lights showed why he is the king of Dirtybird.

His track selection for the set was nothing but fire, as he was able to feature a quite a lot of tracks from other Dirtybird producers, such as Justin Jay, J.Phlip, and Justin Martin, possibly making him one of the best label bosses in the history of label bosses. CVS also played both tracks from his highly anticipated The Rain Break EP: “The Rain Break” and “Here Comes the B.” The title track, The Rain Break, was as great as I’d expect it to be, especially blaring through the remarkable sound system of the RBDeep Invasion Stage. Throughout the set, his transitions between tracks were as unique as they were immaculate. One of his signature moves is that he would loop the weird background noises, and samples that most Dirtybird productions have, making it seem like a flawed transition. When the crowd is most confused, he would drop the bass and the kick drum pattern at the exact right time to make the audience get down to possibly the most bizarre drop in House music, and that is Claude Vonstroke’s Tech House. He closed out the set as well as the festival with his biggest hit of 2015, Make a Cake, and it was lit. Check out Make a Cake’s music video.

Claude Vonstroke’s set was the highlight of Phoenix Lights for me. Having the opportunity to see the Dirtybird king and the Tech House half of Get Real was a privilege, and I will not forget the way he made me get down to the weirdest drops possible on the dance floor. I look forward to attend the Dirtybird Campout this year, because no Tech House is enough Tech House.
