YetepWho is Minnesota was all that I heard this last week with his gig at Shady Park, but really, who is he? To answer your first question, he did grow up in Minnesota, but now resides in California making his unique dub-step, hip-hop sound.
Minnesota was heavily influenced by the underground bass scene in California in 2009. Influencers like Ghostland, Bassnectar, MiMOSA, MartyParty and Modeselektor led him to begin his musical journey. In 2012, Minnesota began getting recognition by Bassnectar, and started opening shows for Paper Diamond and Big Gigantic. Minnesota started getting even more recognition in 2013 after his collab with Seven Lions and Mimi Page for their track, “Fevers.”
Traveling across the country, I would say Arizona was pretty lucky to see this man at this packed show. He did put on a great show. As always, I do have mad respect for any DJ that ditches the computer and uses CDJs instead. Minnesota was playing and dancing harder than most people in the crowd, and clearly looked like he loved what he was doing.
After reading an interview with Christian Bauhofer aka Minnesota, he sounds like a humble man that does not want his fame and glory to take over. Check out his most recent track for All Good Radio! Love it spread the word! Minnesota even states that “I don’t really care if you buy it or illegally download it I just want to spread my music.”
