4 venues. 5 months. 6 parties. The simple recipe to Michael Hooker’s Re:Sounds Summer Series. Tonight, 69 guests will join for a unique and immersive night of dance for the series’ 3rd installment. You’ll find them tucked away at Melinda’s Alley, a discreet basement bar snugly-situated downtown. What’s on tap for this intimate evening? Two extended sets from Arizona’s premier underground talent.
Nikolas & Orenda’s back-to-back will get our feet moving with an eclectic mix of house and techno. When asked about tonight’s set, Nikolas says he wants people to know “it’s music you can come out and listen with your friends, and still have a conversation…it can be high energy at times but also brings a “lounge” vibe.” Having seen Nikolas play twice now, I can attest we will not be lounging the farther the mix progresses. Here’s a taste of what to expect from the two:
Re:Sound label boss, Michael Hooker, caps the night with a special hybrid set. Blending seamless DJing and live editing – Michael’s set will be a unique display of his prowess behind the decks. He’s shared the stage with some of dance music’s biggest names including Lauren Lane and Bob Moses. This past Saturday, he ignited the dance floor for tech house masters Prok & Fitch – notably turning it up a notch with Nic Fanciulli’s remix of Gorillaz “Ascension”
You can expect plenty of music from his rising Re:Sound brand as well. The label recently dropped a remix bundle of Theo Schmitt’s hard-hitting track “The Game.” Featuring a powerful, progressive variation from Michael Hooker and M.E.E.O., this exclusive package quickly ascended to #17 on Beatport’s chart of progressive house releases. A proud moment for the Arizona dance music community.
