YetepSaxophonist and Hip-Hop producer, Masego, is definitely someone to pay attention to in 2018. Moving to Virginia young age, it was difficult for ‘Sego to begin his career musically as Virginia is not known for its’ musicality. He defines his style as “trap house jazz” and all of his beats make it impossible to not move your feet.
Working alongside his fellow Hip-Hop trendsetters, such as Chance the Rapper, Goldlink, Sango, etc., this kind of funky melody, mixed with rap, mixed with jazz, gospel, what have you, is breaking straight through the glass ceilings of the music industry.
Masego is pretty much here to do whatever he wants, and it’s working. “They weren’t fully on me in the jazz community and they weren’t pulling me into trap. I was like, I’ll try my own thing,” he said in an interview with LAWeekly. His song “Girls That Dance” with Medasin garnered over 5 million plays on Spotify with his smooth vocals and jazz rhythm, not to mention Medasin’s groovy beat to back it up.
Masego is definitely where Hip-Hop is headed, and you would be remiss not to hop on this train while it’s at the station. Masego will be at Gem and Jam this coming weekend, and you can buy your tickets here!
