YetepChalk another one up for Robert Sillerman, as SFX Entertainment has now acquired Beatport as part of their EDM business portfolio.
According to the New York Times, the billion-dollar spender has reportedly paid just over $50 million for Beatport. The EDM download site boasts over one million tracks, some of which are exclusive to Beatport.
In an interview quoted by the New York Times Sillerman said “Beatport gives us direct contact with the D.J.’s and lets us see what’s popular and what’s not.” Sillerman has been buying up plenty of the EDM market as he has acquired organizations such as Life in Color (formerly Dayglow) and Disco Donnie Presents. He has also recently partnered with ID&T to bring their European events to North America.
Love it or hate it, electronic music is becoming a highly profitable industry and key players like Sillerman may be shaping the future of EDM as we know it.
