Skrillex continued to raise the bar for electronic music excellence at the Grammys, sweeping all three EDM categories for the second year in a row. His song ‘Bangerang’ took in the Best Dance Recording of the year and his album by the same name won Best Dance/Electronica Album of the year. Not only that, but his remix with Nero, ‘Promises’ took Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical, which is ultimately another EDM award.
Sonny Moore, more popularly known as Skrillex, has to beat out EDM heavy weights like Eric Prydz, Tommy Trash and Axwell in best remix, Kaskade, Steve Aoki and Deadmau5 for Best Album. Swedish House Mafia added to the competition for best dance tune with ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ along with instant classics like Avicii’s trademark ‘Levels‘, Calvin Harris’s radio hit ‘Let’s Go’.
All of these awards came before the start of the official telecast of the Grammys. Skrillex is now 6 for 8 all time in his Grammy nominations, a pretty solid percentage if you want my expert opinion.
Kaskade, who was up for the Best Dance/Electronic album, was pretty pumped about the attention that EDM was starting to get in the recording academy.
“We’ve got three categories this year, and the academy is making an effort to include us,” he said in after pre-telecast events. “In years past, the best electronic albums were Rihanna and a lot of pop stuff. Now, they’ve got it really figured out… It’s a well-oiled machine.”
Trust me, Mr. Ryan Raddon, us EDM fans are just as excited as you to see the genre gaining steam!
A notable story line of the night for EDM insiders was Al Walser’s rise to the Grammy sphere. Showing up shamelessly in an astronaut suit, the Swiss-born producer warranted a lot of attention after his generally unknown single, ‘I Can’t Live Without You’, was nominated for Best Dance Track of the Year, not to mention its noticeable rip from Zedd‘s ‘Spectrum’, which wasn’t nominated.
There was a distinct pin drop silence during the announcement of Al Walser’s nomination for best dance track.
Either way, Skrillex’s victories were vindication for some monumental EDM stars, along with some other rather entertaining tweets from the genre’s hotshots.
I SUCK SO BAD AT ACCEPTANCE SPEECHES …I am officially the most awkward public speaker in the world.,BUT THANK YOU!!
