Sam Vogel, now known as JAUZ, has been very busy on his trajectory to fame ever since last year. His belief that “music has no boundaries” stems from his favorite class, ‘Art of Flow’ that he took at his alma mater, Icon Collective Production School. Icon Collective’s track record for their graduates is already pretty impressive, including the likes of MAKJ, Kayzo, Derek from Slander, Sullivan King, and Protohype, so there must be a secret behind the school’s success.
According to Sam, he accredits his fame as JAUZ to Icon Collective, and in particular, to the class Art of Flow. This class taught him how to overcome writer’s block and delved deep into the overall creative process, making him the great producer he is today. Going into production school, Sam Vogel originally planned to create music like his bass-heavy dubstep favorites, Datsik or Excision; however, this class taught him that any true artist needs to stay true to themselves, rather than attempt to emulate the work of another artist. Some of the best advice that Sam learned from his Art of Flow classes and can pass on to other aspiring producers:
“Lock yourself in your room, don’t do anything but make music, and don’t release it until you’re absolutely sure. No matter how good you think it is, hold off and be patient. Unless you do exactly what you want to do and it makes you happy, it’ll never make anyone else happy. Everyone I’ve seen be successful adheres to those principles I took from Art of Flow.” – JAUZ
He says the moment he knew he made it was at HARD Summer in 2014 when Tchami played his song “Feel the Volume.” He vividly remembers the moment when he heard the vocals from the beginning of his song, his girlfriend turning to him saying, “we need to run!” and taking off, running through the crowd to just make it to the front of the stage right before the drop. The best part was that although the crowd had not heard “Feel the Volume” prior to this, when JAUZ turned around, he could see the entire crowd with their hands in the air, dancing to and LOVING his song. After that his road to fame skyrocketed and he was even well known as one of the favorites at the first ever Phoenix Lights Music Festival this year, where he played among the likes of Hardwell and Zeds Dead.
The young shark has stayed true to producing quality over quantity and just about every release from him has always gotten my rave-fam up and dancing to his infectious future house sound. JAUZ has most recently worked with Ephwurd on “Rock the Party,” the single to be released by Spinnin’ Records on July 17th. In the meantime, you can check out JAUZ’s collaboration with Dillon Francis of their remix to Major Lazer’s “Lean On.” JAUZ has just premiered this genre-defying remix for the lucky crowd at the goHARD tour show earlier this week in Dallas, Texas.
