Bijou has been the go-to house music opener for shows here in AZ for a while now. I’v had the pleasure of seeing him at a few shows and its safe to say this guy knows how to warm up a show with his deep house sounds.
I had the opportunity to ask Bijou himself a few questions to give local fans a chance to get to know him a little better, and maybe get some inspiration as well.
RB: “When you first started producing, what made you decide on house music, and have you ever experienced with other genres?”
“I’ve always loved house music. I was a DJ first and then a producer second so the music I was playing really helped me decide that. I’ve dabbled in other genres and I am working on some other things, but nothing I would put out under my current project.”
RB: “What inspires your music?”
I get inspiration from everything I see and hear. I listen to a wide variety of genres so I like to incorporate aspects from all different styles into the music I make. I’m a huge hip hop fan and you can hear that influence in the majority of my releases.
RB: “You’ve opened for numerous Relentless Beats shows in Arizona, how has your experience been performing here in the valley as a RB supporting act?”
“My experience as a supporting act here has been amazing. I’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to play some big shows in Arizona and the crowd here is great.”
RB: “Which Relentless Beats show that you’ve played at was your favorite?”
“Thats a hard one honestly I cant really narrow it down to one, but the show recently with Destructo was amazing. That crowd is always there for the music and getting to play with friends when they come to town always makes it even better.”
RB: What shows do you look forward to playing at?
“This weekend I have The Dead Carnival Block Party as well as the Viva La Dead block party in Albuquerque. Both should be big so I’m looking forward to those as well as Space Yacht in LA November 10th. Space Yacht always goes off, the vibe there cant be beat.”
RB: “What’s your plan for moving from an opener to a headliner?”
“The plan for that is pretty specific as I have my releases planned through the end of the year as well as the first part of next year. I need to continue to build my network and fan base and stay patient. This type of thing takes time so you can’t rush the process, I think thats really important.”
RB: “How did you like working with Gerry Gonza on The People Beat EP and how do you think it turned out?”
“I love working with Gerry on anything honestly. We’ve done a ton of work together in the past for Thee Cool Cats project as well and we’re all family so it comes easy. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, we had been sitting on Phoenix for awhile and were just waiting on the right track to pair it with. So we finished Watch Me and knew it would be a good fit. Big ups to House Of Hustle for releasing this as well, much love to them doing big things.”

RB: “In today’s day and age the crowd of wanna be DJ’s is continuously growing, what advice do you have for those trying to make it in the scene?”
“Work hard is the best advice I can give. Hard work pays off thats a fact, I think quite a few others along with myself can say that. Meet as many people as you possible can in this industry as well, just like any other industry it boils down to who you know.”
Bijou’s
The People Beat EP was made available yesterday, the 26th just in time for his performances this weekend. These new tunes can be heard at the
Dead Carnival Block Party on Friday at Urbane Manner followed by the
Viva La Dead Block Party on Saturday in Albuquerque in the spirit of Halloween. It sounds like Bijou is on the right track with his career with a great attitude to top it off. Give his new album a listen and stay tuned as he makes the jump from opener to headliner!
