YetepOne of the things I love most about GRiZ is his relentless creativity. He’s a true producer at heart, tirelessly working to create new pieces of art for us to enjoy. With his incredible grasp of multiple genres, GRiZ’s discography has immense range. Between 2019 and 2022, he released seven EPs under the Bangers series, and the world hasn’t been the same since. These EPs are packed with genre-spanning tracks that showcase GRiZ’s versatility and brilliance. This blog kicks off a short series reviewing the Bangers EPs—hope you enjoy!
Bangers[5].Zip – Released in 2020
The fifth installment of the Bangers series dives deep into GRiZ’s bass-heavy side, much to the delight of bass fans everywhere. The EP kicks off with “The Baddest,” a trap and space bass hybrid that sets the tone for destruction. The drop features reverberating downward notes that feel like they’re tearing through the soundscape. Next up is “My Friends and I Pt. 3,” a funky and fun addition to the My Friends and I series. Its upbeat drop is infectious and guaranteed to get you moving. Closing out the EP is one of GRiZ’s most dynamic tracks, “Spaceship Ride.” This song begins with a fast-paced, cinematic drop before transitioning into pure bass funk. The second drop, featuring hollow sounds layered over a quick beat, feels like a ride through space—a true flex of GRiZ’s talent.
Bangers[6].Zip – Released in 2020
Though shorter in length, Bangers[6].Zip still packs a serious punch. It opens with GRiZ’s collaboration with Jauz, “No Doubt,” a devastating track that showcases both artists’ skills. The buildup is incredible, with deep, spacey notes forming a funk-infused melody—a flawless fusion of bass and funk. Then there’s “Brain Fuzz,” one of my all-time favorite tracks. The drop is glitchy and uniquely textured, delivering a bass-funk explosion that emphasizes GRiZ’s impeccable sound design.
GRiZ poured his heart and soul into his music, and it shows. From his expansive discography to his unwavering agenda of spreading love and positivity, his impact on the world is undeniable. As we wait for his eventual return, let’s continue to celebrate his legacy and send him all the love in the world. Show love, spread love!
