RB Exclusive Interview: Florian Picasso Reveals the Euphoric Spark of ‘When I Saw U’

Florian Picasso stands at the intersection of legacy and innovation, channeling a lineage steeped in visual art into a world built from sound. As the great-grandson of Pablo Picasso, he carries a name that echoes through the halls of creative history. Rather than follow the path laid before him, he’s forged a new one through the pulse of electronic music, transforming emotion into energy and crafting tracks that move both body and soul. As co-founder of Dekadance, a collective dedicated to music, art, and radical inclusivity, Florian is also nurturing a community where artistry can flow without borders.

Florian’s latest release, “When I Saw U,” out today on Hot Meal Records, brings his creative vision to life in vivid detail—a vibrant, playful anthem pulsing with the energy of love at first sight. It’s a track about giving in to the moment, trusting instinct, and finding beauty through movement. Reflecting on the story behind the song, Florian reveals a more spontaneous, vulnerable side of himself. Beneath the sleek production and club-ready energy lies something deeply personal: a fleeting emotion captured in sound. The result is a portrait of an artist confidently blending legacy with individuality, the past with the present.

Hi Florian! So glad to have you here! How’s everything going, and where are you at right now?

Everything’s going great! I’m actually in Los Angeles at the moment, just soaking in the vibe and working on a bunch of different projects. It’s been inspiring to be out here.

I’m really excited to hear about your new single! Can you tell us a bit about what inspired it?

So, the idea for “When I Saw U” came during a writing trip in Los Angeles. I was surrounded by great energy, and one night I just had this feeling I wanted to translate—this kind of euphoric spark when you see someone and everything just clicks. It felt like the perfect moment to turn into a track.

What emotions were you trying to capture when you created “When I Saw U”?

Pure happiness. It’s really about that feel-good, goosebumps kind of emotion—the instant high you get when someone walks into the room and you just know. I wanted that feeling to hit as soon as the track starts.

How do you feel your sound has evolved over the years, and how is that reflected in this record?

I feel like I’ve matured a lot musically. Before, I was maybe trying to fit into certain molds, but now I’m creating from a place of freedom. I’ve let go of expectations and I’m just having fun with it—and I think you can really hear that in “When I Saw U.”

Does “When I Saw U” hold any special meaning for you? If so, why?

Definitely. It represents a side of me that’s playful and spontaneous. I’m usually very structured, but with this track, I let myself be goofy, lighthearted—and it ended up being one of my favorite projects because of that.

I love this quote: “Art is how we decorate space; music is how we decorate time.” How does that resonate with you?

Love that quote. It really resonates with me because I see music and visual art as extensions of the same thing. Music allows me to fill a space in time with emotion, story, energy—just like a painting can fill a room. Both are about expressing a moment in a way people can feel.

Can you share what the next chapter looks like for your music and art collective, Dekadance, as it evolves into a record label?

We’re super excited about what’s next for Dekadance. It started as a way to fuse music and visual art, and now we’re building it into a proper label. We want to discover raw, underground talent—people with something unique to say—and give them a space to shine. It’s about breaking rules and building a real creative community.

What’s next for you after this release? Are there any upcoming projects or tours we should look out for?

Yes! There are a few collaborations lined up that I’m really hyped about, and we’re planning the Dekadance tour later this year with an audiovisual concept that’s going to be next level. Plus, I’ve got more music coming—just trying to stay in flow and keep the energy going.

Florian Picasso’s journey is more than a musical evolution; it is a path of self-discovery where legacy transforms into a deeply personal language. “When I Saw U” breathes life into that vision, encapsulating a crystallized emotion and a sonic snapshot of the profound feeling of love at first sight. With a sound that feels like motion suspended in time, Florian doesn’t just capture the energy of a moment—he invites us to immerse ourselves in it. What makes his work resonate so deeply isn’t solely the production, but the authenticity behind it. He creates not to impress, but to express, encouraging us to feel more freely and move more honestly. His sound is a living canvas: fluid, vulnerable, and vibrant with the rhythm of emotion.
