YetepWith almost three decades of prominence, nine studio albums, and ten extended plays under their belt, the hip-hop duo known as Atmosphere has become iconic in the music industry. Made up of rapper Slug (Sean Daley) and DJ/Producer Ant (Anthony Davis), the duo has developed an esteemed reputation for their lyrical poeticism involving real-life themes. Most recently, Atmosphere released Mi Vida Local, the last album in a trilogy about home, family, and mortality. For this week’s Watch it Wednesday, check out the music video for “Graffiti,” the closing track on the album.
Atmosphere – Graffiti (Official Music Video)
With a purposeful aesthetic of a vintage home video, the visual accompaniment to “Graffiti” accentuates the themes of nostalgia, family, and mortality as it follows Slug around the streets of Los Angeles. The video was directed, filmed, and edited by Jason Goldwatch, who has been a longtime collaborator with the duo. “Graffiti” is the concluding track on the last album of a trilogy created to “get comfy with the idea of death,” Slug stated in an interview. The first in the trilogy was the 2014 Southsiders followed by the 2016 Fishing Blues.
Be sure to check out Atmosphere live at the Arizona Roots Music & Arts Festival taking place on February 9 and 10. You can see the full lineup, get more information, and purchase tickets here.
