‘M A L F U N K T’ is 1788-L’s Most Chilling Track Yet

During Miami Music Week, 1788-L (pronounced one-seven-eight-eight-L) announced his highly anticipated second EP, S E N T I E N C E, which is set to be released on April 26. Just in time for their visit to Arizona with Deadbeats on April 20, 1788-L released the lead single off the EP, “M A L F U N K T” with Deathpact and it’s quite possibly the future of bass music.

“M A L F U N K T” isn’t quite bass-house, trance, or glitch, but instead a “new” kind of electronic music. 1788-L’s sound has been popular in the underground scene for a while, but with performances this summer at Lightning in a Bottle, Escapade Music Festival, and Spring Awakening Music Festival, it seems like this is only the beginning for 1788-L, Deathpact, and their harmonic glitchy sound. “M A L F U N K T”  is far from simplistic, with white noise interrupting a heavy bass while a haunting melody unfolds with each kick. The track has a cinematic and ferocious energy that demands to be heard and felt.

Deathpact is equally as mysterious as 1788-L. Last year, around the same time as 1788-L’s emergence, some dedicated fans started noticing Deathpact stickers that covering up the faces in various advertisements and billboards. Deathpact worked with Rezz on the track, “Life and Death”, but we still know little about the glitchy, bass-house artist.
