YetepIt has been a break-neck pace for DEVAULT since Busting into the scene as a remix-tactician in 2017; and being tapped to bring his unique dark sounds to the likes of Lorde, 6lack and most notable with DJ Snake for “A Different Way,” and Rhianna’s “Sex With Me.” The latter of which, peaked #1 on Billboards Dance charts. Late 2018 we saw him release his first EP, Stay, with a brooding and powerful title track featuring Njomza and Bipolar Sunshine. With Devault now officially on the radar, we get to hear and see the evolution in his artistry with his newest project Sapphire. This single blends 80’s synth wave sounds with a stunning curated visual experience all wrapped up into one.
Devault – Sapphire (Official Music Video)
“I wanted to create something that pays homage to the music that got me so excited about electronic music in the first place,” he states, “the new wave sounds of the 80’s, the French Touch, and the rave music of the 90’s all influenced this record,” Devault said of the track.
We’ve seen a resurgence of 80’s inspired music, but ironically mostly used to bait nostalgia in movies and TV. Vaporwave was a meme on the internet that poked fun at the 80’s aesthetic as a whole; so to see Devault approach it from such a genuine place is refreshing, and it reflects in the music. Not only a homage to a sound that helped pioneer electronic music, but a welcome subversion from much of what composes mainstream electronic music today. Sapphire inspires that long night drive feeling, where you can put the track on repeat and see where the dark, open roads take you.
