YetepFred again.. has been growing exponentially since the start of the pandemic. Something about taking heartfelt moments and turning them into electronic tracks gripped the hearts of millions of fans around the world. Many people doubted that any of the fans would translate to ticket sales when things returned to “normal,” but Fred again.. sure proved them wrong. He has toured around the world with insane turnouts and even headlined Coachella in place of Frank Ocean with Skrillex and Four Tet. He has consistently released hits and his fanbase only seems to grow increasingly loyal with time. With the recent announcement of an album, Fred again.. is sure to send shockwaves through the industry… again.
In an Instagram post, Fred stated: “It’s ten songs about ten days. Theres been a lot of biggg mad crazy moments in the last year but basically all of these are about really very small quiet intimate moments. Some of them are like the most intensely joyful things I have felt, and some of the are the other side of things. And some days I don’t want to speak about loads cos I’m not the only person it was an important day for if that makes sense.” Naturally, the album is titled ten days.

The album is officially set to release on September 6th and will include 10 songs and 10 tracks that I assume help transition from one song to another during the album play through. It’s also creative in a sense that it would feel like a DJ set if this is what Fred again.. ends up doing. I’m not entirely sure what each DSPs rules are on paying out royalties for tracks like this, but my assumption is that Fred again.. will be able to earn some additional royalties with this strategy and encourage a full album experience. Full album experiences have suffered in the digital age, but many artists are increasingly creative in their strategies to increase full album play counts (including Fred).
Directly after announcing the album release date, he has also announced a North American tour beginning on September 11th with 14 dates including Colorado, Utah, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario, New York, Georgia, and Texas. Where’s the Arizona love, Fred? Regardless, this is a great strategy for promoting his album and engaging major cities. Since announcing the tour, he also set up a pop-up event in Copenhagen which gathered media attention and fan engagement ahead of thealbum release. According to Billboard, his touring and pop-up strategy has completely changed the game. He creates intimate moments that are focused in the now, leading to millions of dollars in revenue and ticket sales in the hundreds of thousands. Is this the future of touring?
