YetepIn my opinion, Pacific Northwest based producer Quackson is one of the most underrated DJs in the bass music scene. His sound design is eerie, well-layered, and most importantly… SUPER HEAVY. His incredible Dilation EP is ever-present in my replay list. I continue to notice new sounds and little details with every listen, only growing my admiration and respect for this underrated wub king. Quackson has made a grand return with a new single called “Scorcher.”
The single’s cover art captures Quackson’s iconic cyber-horror aesthetic, featuring a medieval flail and fiery-orange text.
“Scorcher” features chunky bass, horror-inspired sound elements, and plenty of wubs. Quackson stays consistent with his mid-tempo production style, while bringing in cybernetic quacks and squeaks. A “HEY” sample dances under reverberating spirals and pummeling drums. Sweeping transitions perfectly bridge the shifting track sections. “Scorcher” has an old school analog feel to it, while also mixing in some modern production elements. It also features notes of riddim hidden under the heavy dubstep drops. Dark, distorted vocals add to this menacing track’s sound. “Scorcher” expands Quackson’s laser-like production into a full-on battering ram, without compromising on melody. It also matches the vibe of the intense album artwork. This results in a well-rounded listen that is definitely worth your time.
