YetepIf you haven’t heard the name Billy Kenny by now, pay attention, because while his name is gaining notoriety, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve heard a few of his productions in the mixes of some of the biggest names in house music. A producer, engineer, and DJ from Leeds, Billy Kenny’s sound demonstrates an orientation that leans toward the more aggressive forms of house, as he frequents sounds related to garage, house, techno. He has had quite the list of releases, such as the hit “Work”, which spent most of last summer reigning over the bass heavy side of festival sets and has received quite a bit of support from the likes of Shadow Child and the rest of his mates on their label This Ain’t Bristol, based in Germany.
However, when Billy Kenny premiered on the infamous American label Dirtybird Records in April with his production “I Operate”, it seemed that American dance music fans really caught on to this UK producer’s style. Since his big debut on the notoriously bass heavy label, Billy Kenny has released an EP What You Sample/I Eat Beats on his co-owned imprint This Ain’t Bristol. The EP features a variety of sounds, from melodic 808s, gritty beats, and orchestral breaks. Additionally featured on the EP is a remix of the hit “I Eat Beats” by Dirtybird Ardalan. Since the release of the EP, Billy Kenny’s name has been popping up everywhere. This year, Billy Kenny is set to take on tours in Australia and North America, and will even be making a pit stop at Dirtybird’s first ever Dirtybird Campout. Be sure to check out Billy Kenny, as his unique sound takes on the dance music world.
