YetepInfected Mushroom’s eighth studio album release Army of Mushrooms dropped today on Dim Mak Records and quickly climbed to the top of the iTunes dance chart knocking Tiesto’s Club Life Vol .2 – Miami, Skrillex’s Bangarang, and David Guetta’s Nothing But The Beat all down a notch. Steve Aoki tweeted about the album’s success around 2PM today, “Its a big big BIG deal for us at DIM MAK when we hit #1 @itunes dance on an album.”
The album is a mix of electro house, drum & bass, psy-trance, and some dubstep influences that together make up the unique sound Infected Mushroom is known for. “Never Mind,” the album’s opening track, seems to be the album’s most accessible track as it’s also currently ranking as Army’s most popular track. The quick tempo, staccato melody, and synth chords make for a light and groovy track that all dance fans can appreciate. For those who haven’t yet warmed up to any dub, this is definitely a solid introduction, albeit a really mild flavor.
The track likely to get the most attention, however, is “U R So Fucked” (censored, of course, in the iTunes store). This track alone is a perfect example of Mushroom’s uncanny ability to bridge genres. It features some of the hard beats long-time listeners will expect with dubstep phrasing and overarching psy-trance chords. It’s a track almost in its own genre.
