YetepAfter one of the most talked about performances at this year’s Ultra Music Festival, Avicii finally releases one of those folky sounding tunes that everyone hear at the Ultra main stage, the first single off of his upcoming album, #True.
Different that most anything produced by the a top ten DJ in recent memory, ‘Wake Me Up’ hits the speakers with a speedy acoustic solo, and soulful coming-of-age lyrics by Aloe Blacc. The intro adds almost a level of comfort to listen to, each chord sounding like a crackling fireplace on a cold winter day. (That’ll sound amazing after this summer!)
Eventually, the sound fades into a progressive-like bump that we all know Avicii for, with the same down home melody from before.
For Avicii’s debut album, he’s recruited the likes of Daft Punk collaborator and funky legend Nile Rodgers, country music’s Mac Davis and Incubus’s Michael Einsinger, far from what many expected after his groundbreaking ‘Le7els’ hit a few years back.
However the experimental album will be received, Avicii wanted to make something clear right after his UMF performance. After describing the acoustic stylings of #True on a Facebook post, he said “But my album is certainly not ‘country’. Every song on the album is a fusion with house and electronic music.”
We finally got our first official taste. Time to look forward to the future of EDM. #True is set to release this September.
