Todd Edwards, the former producer of Daft Punk‘s “Face To Face” in 2001, uprooted his life to help create this album. He worked with Daft Punk to create a sound that hasn’t been heard in quite sometime for their coming album release.
“They wanted to pick up this west coast vibe, and I first I didn’t really know what that meant,” Edwards said. “I’m from Jersey. I’ve gone to LA like twice in my life…The concept was they reverse gears and went back to a time that no one’s really focusing on. They’re fulfilling their vision on all levels.”
After working with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, seeing what they can do in a studio, Edwards is convinced that this album will be like nothing ever heard before.
“I think younger producers are going to be blown away by what they’re hearing,” Edwards continued. “It’s not going to be possible to do what they did, but you can take ideas from that. Maybe it’ll make you think, ‘I want to bring in a live bass player on this’ or ‘Let’s experiment with using analog gear again’.
“You’re listening to this, their future classics, the sound of something that’s been lost for a long time. It’s kind of ironic. Two androids are bringing soul back to music.”
