The sixth annual Escape:Psycho circus took place in San Bernadino, California over Halloween weekend. There were five stages blasting beats, haunted amenities, and spooky creatures all around. Escape boasted one of the most diverse lineups of the Halloweekend and as always the Insomniac production was top-notch. The sold out show had approximately 110K guests, making it a full haunted house.
Tcahmi @ Escape 2016
Tchami was without a doubt one of the best sets of the weekend. The visual production was outstanding. Bright lasers hit fans from every angles. He featured a dope “Thief” remix, some JOYRYDE, Chocolate Puma, and his remix of Janet Jackson‘s “Go Deep”. Tchami brought us to the ‘afterlife’ and back with this funky set. The Tchami love was apparent judging my the amount of nun costumes there were on Friday night!
Despite having a 9 pm set, Duke Dumont had the main stage tent, also known as the Slaughter House, packed full! It was a sea of bodies dancing as Duke Dumont played all his fan favorites, as well as some new music from his fourth edition of, For Club Play Only. He was one of the few artist I saw use the new pillars in the extended main stage tent. It was a simple addition, but effective!
Kayzo had the entire Chopping Block jumping from front to back. He displayed some truly brilliant mix work and flawless transitioning. He opened his set with a hard rendition of the Stranger Things themes song. Other than that his set dabbled in a little bit of everything– hardstyle, dub, trap, 90’s pop and a new ID! His recent remix of Porter Robinson‘s “Bright Lights” was a huge hit. It was definitely a fun set to be part of.
Firebeatz was an unexpected delight. Prior to Escape I hadn’t heard much from this duo, but as I sat is a grassy area next to the Ghoul’s Graveyard I found their beats pulling me onto the dance floor. It was one high-energy track after another. The visual production was also really incredible (Ghoul’s Graveyard really brought it this year). Definitely a set you want to check out next time you see their name on a lineup!
Escape Psycho Circus 2016 – Dash Berlin
Dash Berlin closed out the Ghoul’s Graveyard on Saturday. He had the entire tent, packed full, moving with every beat. He included a really cool mashup between “Wait For You” and “Reload”, and his remix of “Sweet Dreams”, a personal favorite of mine! Towards the end of his set Dash played a beautiful rendition of the song “Heaven” that really captured the magic of the moment and brought the weekend to a proper close. You can catch almost the entire set in the video above!
Despite the reputation Southern California raves have received in recent years Escape went off with minimal issues and arrests. Overall it was a fantastic show. Having become one the most popular Halloween festivals in the country Escape will surely be back for years to come!
