YetepSteve Aoki is known (and loved) for creating his own rules when it comes to producing. Mixing indie pop, hip/hop, and electronic is a feat most artists would stray from, but not Steve. His latest single, “Pretender”, is a melting pot of genres that come together to create one diverse track.
On this one, we have a classic Aoki dance-evoking beat and build up that leads into a hands-in-the-air drop. What’s special about this song is the widely opposing vocalists featured. In lunch terms, “Pretender” is like the peanut butter & jelly Sriracha burger. Sounds like an odd pairing but it ends up being a symphony of flavors. AJR and Lil Yatchy bring a balancing act of vocals that give this song a depth most songs never see. Only Aoki could pull something like this off, example A why he is one of the greats. The man, the music, the legend returns to AZ for the second annual Goldrush Music Festival this September. Grab your tickets here!
