YetepThe cheeky rapper known as K.Flay wasn’t always honed in on producing alternative music. While in the midst of a double major in psychology and sociology at Stanford, she started playing with music as a fun hobby outside of her curricular studies. Since graduating, she’s seen 0 patients, but she has collected from her brewing talent mixtapes, mashups, remixes, and EPs. You may recognize her sweet and sour voice from Louis The Child’s instant favorite “It’s Strange,” for which she lent her faraway dreamy voice. Her independent projects are all on their own wavelength and her recent collaboration with Dune Rats channels this wild child sound. Listen to “Stupid Is As Stupid Does” below.
K.Flay speaks on their track, saying that “This song is about being stupid with your friends, which is something I do frequently and with great joy.” This energy is encapsulated in the punk vocals, brooding drums, and guitar strums dripping in nostalgic wistfulness. K.Flay’s voice adds a feminine flavor to the song, but she still has that rebellion laced in her tone to be more than just the female vocal added on. In her own tracks and in collaborations, K.Flay is impossible to overlook.
K.Flay is joining her old friends Louis the Child on their Here For Now Tour on April 17th at The Park at Wild Horse Pass. This is not the show to be absent from, so go get your tickets here.
