YetepWhile albums give artists the space to create immersive worlds within their music, I believe EPs can be just as impactful, even though they typically contain fewer songs. EPs allow an artist to capture a fleeting moment in history, and with their compact nature, they can distill emotion, power, and artistry into a shorter, more focused experience. EPs deserve celebration, and this is the Greatest EP by EP series. I hope you enjoy it.
Seven Lions – Find Another Way – Released in 2020
Seven Lions is on the Mount Rushmore of melodic EDM and has proven his longevity. His ability to craft soaring chord progressions over powerful basslines, paired with emotionally rich vocals, is unmatched. His versatility in blending styles, even when stepping outside of melodic bass, remains just as excellent. As a pioneer in melodic EDM, Seven Lions continues to push the envelope while staying true to his signature sound, creating timeless masterpieces. He truly shined on his EP Find Another Way—one of the best EPs of all time.
Released in 2020, Find Another Way came out during a time when the world was shrouded in uncertainty, arriving just a month after COVID-19 became a global reality. This short, yet emotionally packed collection of songs includes some of my all-time favorites. Kicking off with a collaboration with Au5 and Crystal Skies, “Remember” sets the tone with powerful melodic drops infused with a dubstep-inspired edge, complete with a gnarly mid-drop switch-up that sends the listener spiraling. While this track doesn’t feature lyrics, Seven Lions touches the soul with vocal-heavy tracks like “Only Now” and “Another Way,” where breathtaking vocals soar over emotional, powerful drops. The EP ends on a high note with “What’s Done Is Done,” one of my favorite tracks of all time. The incredible buildup opens the gates to heaven, unleashing a melodic drop that takes your breath away.
Seven Lions stands at the top for a reason. His mastery in channeling emotion into electronic music is nearly unparalleled, and his artistry shines through at every turn. Here’s hoping he makes a return to Arizona soon—and when he does, don’t forget the tissues!
