YetepPrepare yourself for five tracks of finely-tuned bass. Hamdi’s Abomination EP, released on June 19th, plays like an autobiography of Hamdi’s musical journey.
UK-based Hamdi has carved out a space for himself in the industry, producing chart-topping tracks like “Push” with Skrillex, TAICHU, OFFAIAH, and contra, and “Counting” with Princess Superstar. But you haven’t heard Hamdi like this. He creates a sound that is truly distinctive on his Abomination EP. It’s rich with personal influences while remaining on the cutting edge, traversing a variety of genres including grime, UK garage, dubstep.
Hamdi kicks it off with “Lamp,” a collab with the DNB/deep dubstep collective, Visages. It pulls you in with hypnotic vocals and distorted bass. Layered with textures and grime-tinged rhythm, it sets the tone for the EP. Next is the eponymous track, “Abomination.” It’s an exploration of sound that feels reminiscent of the early days of dubstep with a steady build of filthy drops and deep lows. “Orchid” is the kind of track that makes you want to put on your sunglasses, pull up your pash and just vibe. It’s sploinky, glitchy, and groovy, plunging into dark trap territory.
Just when you think you’ve caught a vibe, Hamdi switches it up with “Ride Up To The Door.” This track celebrates Hamdi’s UKG roots with a frenetic energy and an industrial edge. The EP closes out with the track, “Move On.” Its hypnotic vocals bring you back to earth and urges listeners to let go of the past.
Hamdi’s Abomination EP is a true showcase of his artistic range and one that should be listened to from start to finish. If this EP is any indication, the future of UK bass is on an unpredictable yet exciting journey.
