RBDeep In the Mix: REZZ Metronome Mix

Isabelle Rezazadeh, aka REZZ, is a dark techno producer from Niagara Falls, Canada. It has only been since 2013 when she was inspired by deadmau5 to start producing, and now she is considered to be one of today’s fastest-rising electronic stars. Her dark, dreary and heavy-hitting style of techno raised many comparisons between her and techno vampire, Gesaffelstein; fans even nicknamed her Girlsaffelstein. Yet, her DJ personality and stage present is still very unique because she prefers to play her own tracks, and she utilizes the full potential of the breakbeats of dark techno and her downbeat originals. REZZ recently created a mix for Insomniac’s Metronome series and it was as intense and pitch-black as her fans would imagine. Check it out!

This mix was chosen for this week’s RBDeep In the Mix because it demonstrated very well what REZZ had learned from the last few years being a DJ. The way she manipulated the low frequency level to work with the breakbeats of dark techno throughout this mix was on point. Her unique DJ personality also shined through during these transitions because unlike many other techno artists, she values the abrupt drop of bass and kick drum, creating a sense of sudden and unpredictability of a twisted haunted house ride. The majority of this mix was REZZ’s music: from “Rush” of the “Insurrection” EP, to “Edge” of the latest EP, “The Silence is Deafening“, to her remix of Gesaffelstein’s “Hellifornia”; REZZ only played 2 tracks from other artists, with Zeds Dead being one of them.

REZZ is bringing her haunted house ride, the REZZURECTION Tour, to Shady Park in Tempe on Friday, June 24. I’m looking forward to see her debut show in Arizona and I can’t wait to experience the twists and turns of this dreary ride.
