YetepIf you’re not familiar with Panda Eyes, then you’re missing out on one of the most talented new bass music artists this year. The 21-year-old Swiss producer has been active for a while now, but just recently started gaining recognition here in the U.S. The first time I had been introduced to Panda Eyes’ melodic-dub style was this past summer, when I heard his edit of Boombox Cartel & Quix’s “Supernatural.”
Panda Eyes self-released his first full-length album Continue on September 1st. The LP contains 12 tracks, each unique in their own way. The opener, “One Sky,” features Azuria Sky on the vocals, and immediately the listener is treated to one of Panda Eyes’ most emotional soundscapes. Throughout the album he displays a mind-blowing ability to combine beautiful digitized melodies with some of the filthiest sounds I’ve ever heard. For example, the fifth track on the album “Insomnia” features a brooding intro but drops into a synth pattern that is almost riddim. Take a listen to the album below:
Some of my personal favorites on the album include “Apocalypse” and “Fake Princess.” Overall, I’d say Panda Eyes’ first album is a great display of who he is as a producer. Each track has it’s own unique flair that covers this LP in personality. Panda Eyes isn’t a producer that lets a single genre define him, he explores any sound he chooses, whether it’s filthy, aggressive dubstep, or melody driven glitch pop.
