3LAU is more than just a DJ. He’s a multi-instrumentalist, an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, and an innovative and unconventional electronic dance music producer. Born Justin Blau (hence the backwards “b” in his stage name), the artist got his start with piano lessons at the ripe age of three. His taste in music shifted around high school from classical toward the likes of Radiohead and Sigur Ros. He learned to play the guitar, bass, and drums, and ultimately took a trip to Sweden, which inspired his career in dance music production.
Let’s head back to where it all began for 3LAU in this week’s Spin it Back Saturday. Check out his 2014 single, “How You Love Me” ft. Bright Lights below.

“How You Love Me” instantly catapulted 3LAU into the spotlight. It dominated the radio and closed out the year as Sirius XM BPM’s “Most Played Record of the Year.” With success so early on, 3LAU has spent the last several years focusing much of his attention elsewhere, like on carrying out his philanthropic goals. He launched Blume, the “first not-for-profit dance music label and philanthropic movement,” which raised 200,000 for the nonprofit organization Pencils of Promise in 2016 with just five releases. Blume also raised money for a variety of different charities in 2017.
With his production talent and a heart of gold it’s hard not to like 3LAU. If you’d like to hear more of him, head to Talking Stick Resort on August 18 for a Release Pool Party, where he’ll be playing alongside Elephante. Grab your tickets here.
