Size Records: This is Junior Sanchez – The Past, The Present & The Future

Can you imagine a life without Shazam? That’s the app I use when I hear a song and want to learn more about the artist. Shazam also lets me share the track on Facebook and Twitter and provides additional information about the artist, tour dates, and more. Apps like this are popular in clubs, too, when a DJ is performing and you want to know more about the track he or she is spinning [Shazam recently added the Beatport catalog]. Before smartphones, “back in the day”, fans would stand next to the DJ watching his or her every move. The mixing, the record selection, the intangibles that make a great DJ and DJ set.

Junior Sanchez used to do that. He used to frequent NASA raves in the early 1990s and has been spotted in fan videos from around the world sneaking a peak at the decks. In fact, there’s a video on YouTube where he is watching Moby, before Moby was Moby, spin. Those are some impressive moves to mirror. Learning those skills has placed Sanchez as one of the most important names in electronic dance music today.

When Junior was only 17, he did A&R for Ruff Trax. Then he met an unseasoned Armand van Helden in 1992 and formed the house music collective the Mongoloids. From there he went to work with Felix da Housecat on the legendary Kittenz & The Glitz album and eventually launched his own BROBOT label. Needless to say, Junior has been a part of some of finest EDM moments.

Junior Sanchez – The Past, The Present & The Future

To give fans the proper look into what Junior Sanchez means to dance music, Steve Angello has commissioned a video biography on Junior. In the video, Junior sits down with Josh Madden and candidly reflects on the past and where things are going in the future.

“The vision behind BROBOT Records is a purely art driven project where if I love it, I’ll release it,” Junior said. “I want to empower and showcase fresh new talent and release new and more experimental music from my peers while also providing a home to release my own material. I feel like this has gone full circle for me since my cube recordings days. Steve told me that Cube was a source of great inspiration for him to launch Size Records, so it makes sense to form a label partnership between Size and BROBOT. I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s two like minded individuals creating something special!”

This video is the perfect introduction to what will be a massive year for Junior Sanchez – from his new partnership with Size Records to a vast collection of new singles, a game changing artist album and his eclectic BROBOT radio show. In honor of the Brobot launch, Junior is presenting his fans with the first single “Acid Fire” for free by visiting his Facebook page. What does it sound like? “It’s acid techno with a funky twist.”

Junior Sanchez will be in Miami during WMC/MMW on Sunday, March 17 at the Shelborne Hotel and on Saturday, March 23 at the Size Party at Wall (with special guests Tim Mason, Third Party, Qulinez and Wayne & Woods).
