Daft Punk Breaks Silence With Rolling Stone: Random Access Memories Tracklist Revealed

Without warning, the mysterious French robots, Daft Punk, appear on the giant Coachella screens with Pharrell and guitarist Nile Rodgers, both album collaborators, with them, playing their first single off the album,”Get Lucky.” Little does the crowd know, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, the faces behind the robots, stand at edge of the VIP section watching all of this unfold.

With a little over a month left before the release of their latest album Random Access Memories, Rolling Stone published an interview with them discussing the new sound with the two dance music legends.

Excluding the intro to the final song “Contact”, Daft Punk decided against samples on this album, and limited exposure for drum machines to create a new sound for the upcoming album. Considering the EDM craze and the massive amounts of new music that has followed it, Thomas Bangalter feels that this new sound will be extremely important to the genre.

“Electronic music right now is in its comfort zone and it’s not moving one inch,” Thomas told Rolling Stone in an interview. “That’s not what artists are supposed to do.” He feels that the scene is facing an “identity crisis,” one in which the songs start to blur together and very few artists have a distinct sound.

Instead, the group looks to the past to make the sounds of the future. “The Seventies and the Eighties are the tastiest era for us,” Guy-Manuel said in Rolling Stone. “And all these guys were tripping on meeting again and playing together again.” He adds: “It’s not that we can’t make crazy futuristic sounding stuff, but we wanted to play with the past.”

If it’s anything like the tune we’ve been hearing on SNL commercials, it looks like we’re headed back to the Saturday Night Fever.

Thomas says that though they haven’t made tour plans yet, their travels will encompass all of their music and not just one album or another.

Keep holding on DP fans…we’ve almost made it.

By the way, the tracklist (listed below) for the new album is out, including the collaborators and all! It’s like Daft Punk Christmas!
