Claptone Strikes Again, This Time in Five Minutes

Masked master producer Claptone has done it again! This past week, he was featured on BBC Radio1 to bring forth his Mini Mix on Annie Mac’s show, what he brought was an insane mix of genres, from classic rock to pop to disco and everything else in between. In only five minutes, Claptone created a flurry of so many different sounds and made it all fit together seamlessly like a puzzle genius. Mixing 68 tracks in this mini mix, Claptone touched on sounds from The Chemical Brothers, The Rolling Stones, Pet Shop Boys, Foals, and let a couple of his own productions take the spotlight as well.

In this mix, he concocted some amazing overlaps and fearlessly made so many different combinations of tracks and sounds work. In just the first thirty seconds, Claptone gives listeners a taste of Prince’s beautiful vocals from “Kiss” and suddenly has them jamming to the legendary bassline from Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust”, which takes off into the familiar bassline of Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight”. Another brilliant pairing in this mix took place when Claptone momentarily let the bassline from A Tribe Called Quest’s “Can I Kick It?” play as the vocals from “Dare” by Gorillaz kicked in right on top. The mix capped off with one of  Claptone’s more recent singles “Music Got Me”, which is on his debut album, set to release later this year. Whether or not you’ve heard of Claptone, you should definitely give this mix a listen and get a small sample of what Claptone really brings to the turntable.
