YetepSix years ago Green Velvet’s “Bigger Than Prince” became a worldwide phenomenon that rocked clubs and warehouses into a frenzy. With remixes from Hot Since 82 and Martinez Brothers, the track became a mainstay for years. While fans welcomed each rework with fervor, artists took the track and molded it into their own. Back in 2014, Darius Syrossian remixed the track with a heavy acid vibe, bringing Green Velvet’s masterpiece back into the scene. But now, Syrossian teams up with Jamie Jones to flip it once again, creating instead a warm and laidback take while somehow still getting groovy. The revamp of “Bigger Than Prince” by these two Techno and House legends take on some deep retro vibes. We start amongst reverberating symbols and an almost meditative ambiance before a gritty silence drops us into bouncing Big Room Techno. Out now on Circus Recordings, check it out below.
All about the music, Darius Syrossian has earned his place within the scene. The DJ, producer, label boss, radio show host, and all-around party starter has played in highly esteemed clubs and on festival stages for years. He’s the curator of DO NOT SLEEP records and holds a weekly residency in Ibiza. So, it would make sense for him to take his style and clash it with Jamie Jones.
Another Ibiza residency holder who started the now global party, Paradise Global Event Series, Jones is another force to constantly be reckoned with. He started out throwing warehouse parties in the mid 00’s of East London called DJs Can Dance to creating Hot Creations recordings which has now put out over 100 releases. His beginning simply marked him as another hot target in the scene and he never failed to impress release after release. Jones paved the way for warmer, more melodic takes on Techno while heating the crowd with gritty synth lines. Partnering with Syrossian on this one brings out a dangerously new vibe that has us all trying to walk around like we’re “Bigger Than Prince.”
Decadence AZ is just around the corner, so be sure to get tickets to see Jamie Jones drop this live. He’ll be playing alongside other groovy artists like Tchami, Malaa, and Nora En Pure on December 30th and 31st. Grab tickets here.
