Spin it Back Saturday: Morgan Page – ‘The Longest Road’

The year was 2008 and Morgan Page released his first album titled Elevate. The first song off his debut EP and our topic of discussion today is ‘The Longest Road.” This tune features vocals by American singer-songwriter, Lissie, and blends an interesting mix of electro….and country? Blending electronic and country sounds is a trend we are starting to see pop up more often, so it’s safe to say this track was far ahead of its time. You hear an ever so subtle twang in Lissie’s voice and the kicks throughout the song. For this Spin it Back Saturday we are do-si-doing to “The Longest Road.”

Once called out for being the genre blend master, Page expands on his style by saying:

I like to borrow a lot from different genres. I get tired of the same old sound.. I try to be really inspired by music I don’t like in addition to music that I do. On “The Longest Road” I think there were slide guitars which gave it that feel of a country influence, but just because it has the guitar doesn’t mean it’s necessarily country… I also typically choose vocalists that I want to work with that don’t sound like your typical pretty dance vocalist, so the lyrical content and timbre of the voice are different and I try to surround them with instruments that make sense.”

It’s refreshing to encounter an artist who so boldly does whatever he wants. We are very excited to welcome Morgan Page back to the desert for Phoenix Lights. Today we honor Page for his 2018 hit and come April 8th with will be waiting anxiously for him to rock The Mothership. Don’s miss this, grab your ticket here.
